BR — . On the morning of Thursday, August 20, HBO will promote a panel on gender-neutral language in the nation of Brazil, which the cable television company hopes will galvanize communicators and the general public toward using language that is sensitive to ‘gender identity’.

The Diversity: Inclusive Communication Challenge panel will broadcast during the 23rd edition of the Mega Brasil Congress on Communication, Innovation and Corporate Strategies. The independent event, which is the largest of its kind in Latin America, brings together professionals from all over the nation to engage in lectures, round tables and conferences that have as their focus nationwide Corporate Communication.

HBO’s contribution to the event will stress the importance of communication that is inclusive of gender identities. The company says the goal of the panel is to raise awareness about, bring visibility to, and ensure inclusion of transgender and non-binary individuals.

Flavia Vigio, who serves as Vice President, Public Relations & Corporate Communications at HBO Latin America, will mediate the panel.

Panelists will include Vera Egito and Daniel Ribeiro, who created and directed Todxs Nós, an HBO television series about a teen girl named Rafa who identifies as non-binary and pansexual.

Pri Bertucci, a social artist who identifies as trans and gender queer, will speak on the panel. Bertucci is the CEO of Diversity Bbox, a [SSEX BBOX] initiative focusing on LGBTQIA inclusion, diversity and equality in businesses by combining “education and communication to encourage corporate change.”

Linguist Eduardo Calbucci is also expected to be part of the panel’s lineup.

HBO’s strategy to move the public toward using language that is sensitive to gender identity began with its launch this year of Todxs nós – linguagem viva e inclusiva (“All of us – living and inclusive language”). HBO Latin America said this guide for inclusive language was developed through consultancy with Diversity Bbox, as well as lessons the cable network had gathered during its production of Todxs Nós.

The Todxs Nós television series inspired the creation of the Inclusive Journalism Award, which recognizes print, online, audio and video and journalistic works that adopt inclusive language.
