A father of two who blames gender dysphoria for his urges to download images depicting the rape and torture of female toddlers is now seeking transfer to a women’s prison.
Serial offender Ella Davies, who was arrested 12 times in 2016 alone for the possession of indecent images of children, says his prolific sexual criminality stems from gender dysphoria, autism, depression, the breakup of his marriage, loss of contact with his children and surviving child abuse.
The former soldier, who was named Daniel Reeves before he began identifying as a woman, was handed a two-year suspended sentence in 2016, and ordered to take a treatment course for sex offenders. Mr Davies claimed through defense lawyer Barry White that gender dysphoria prevented him from completing the course.
In August 2017, officers who raided the Dukes Place, Paignton home of Mr Davies found on his smart phone 1,103 images of children. Law enforcement categorized 103 of the images as serious. Entered into evidence were photos of an adult man raping a girl as young as two, and an image of a visibly distressed child of around three-years-old with a plastic bag over her head, and the word “rape” scrawled across her nude body.
To avoid a March 2019 court appearance, Mr Davies went on the lam for two months, and hid in the woods around Tavistock and Plymouth. He turned himself in at the Crownhill police station on May 16.
Mr Davies pleaded guilty to making and possessing indecent images of children, breaching bail, and breaking a suspended sentence. Judge David Evans sentenced Mr Davies to a year and nine months.
The prison service is expected to make a determination as to whether to transfer the child sex offender to a women’s prison.
