A UK-based online magazine dedicated to queer and transgender interests worldwide is facing backlash after appearing to show hypocrisy on the subject of gender identity.
On July 7, PinkNews posted on its website a news story titled, “Gay couple who wanted a son sue IVF clinic after surrogate gives birth to daughter,” sourced from CBS News.
According to the report, Albert and Anthony Saniger, a male, same-sex couple, desired to have two sons.
The duo, who have been married since 2013, sought the services of HRC Fertility in Pasadena, California.
HRC markets its clinic as “dedicated to helping the gay and lesbian community achieve their dreams of parenthood,” the same-sex couple explained in court documents filed later.
At a cost of $300,000 to the couple, HRC and fertility specialist Dr Bradford A Kolb arranged for donor embryos to be fertilized with sperm collected from the Sanigers, and for a surrogate who would gestate and birth the child.
The couple informed the clinic and Dr Kolb that only male embryos should be transferred to the surrogate’s uterus. HRC determined which of the embryos were of the male sex, and allowed the Sanigers to select the exact embryos they wanted used in the process, court documents show.
However, HRC and Dr Kolb “negligently, recklessly, and/or intentionally transferred a female embryo to the Sanigers’ gestational carrier,” resulting in the birth of a baby girl in 2021, the couple is now alleging.
The Sanigers considered “this error” a “staggering” financial loss, states their lawsuit, which was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.
The couple is accusing the HRC and Dr Kolb of breach of contract, medical malpractice, negligence and fraudulent concealment and violation of the Unfair Competition Law and the Consumer Legal Remedies Act.
The summary by PinkNews includes condemnation of the fertility industry for using a process that results in those who are not “cisgender couples” paying a comparatively “hefty amount of money to experience the joy of parenthood.”
Backlash against the pop news website was swift across social media networks.
Many social media users pointed out the hypocrisy of PinkNews recognizing the infant in this case as female, while over the years consistently backing “the right of transgender women to assert their own identity” and branding any acknowledgement that “transgender women” are members of the male sex as “anti-trans” and “misgendering.”

A July 10 tweet by Twitter user Dan Fisher, which remarks that “So Pink News does, in fact, know the difference between male and female – when it comes to buying babies,” had by press time garnered 8,445 likes.
In the face of heightened scrutiny, PinkNews vowed on Facebook the following day that it would more heavily moderate its comment section on the platform:

But what we all want to know is what happened to the baby? Did they reject her?
I don’t understand why they couldn’t just assign her male at birth. They wanted a boy and they got a boy cos baby can identify as male.
The men said they are keeping the girl, but still plan on having two boys. They just feel shafted because they got saddled with “this error” of a baby girl who came at a “staggering financial loss” to them.
What kind of life will that little girl have, surrounded by four males, her parents not wanting her and calling her a mistake? That’s so disgusting. Imagine if parents were to say that about having a “transgender” or gay kid, saying they’ve been wronged.. It’d be outrageous. But since it’s a little girl, it’s fair game. 😀 How does anyone see misogyny here?

The true victim in all of this is ab innocent baby girl whose “two dads” sued for hundreds of thousands of dollars just because the child turned out to be female. I hope these two men are not going to drag their child to a drag queen story hour hoping she can be brainwashed to “transition.”

I consider this obscene: $300,000 to buy a designer baby. Men have NO BUSINESS raising babies in the first place, NO BUSINESS demanding babies built to their specifications, and I can only pray that someone is loving and caring for this girl baby as she deserves.
Why would gay men demand male babies? I hate to think.
“Gestational carrier”? Oh my, how far we have come in our ability to dehumanize females, reduce us to machines and parts to be rented in order to purchase a baby, all in the name of ‘justice.’ If the men discusss in the article believe in the trans stick, they merely need to say that their daughter was ‘assigned’ female but will identity as male, and they help that process along by exposing the child to trans children’s books.

The obstetrician just assigned the wrong gender, happens all the time. It was a transgender boy obviously. Doctor should counter sue.

Prick News has ALWAYS been able to differentiate between male and female. The entire ideology, nay religion to which they subscribe whilst gaslighting society by claiming that said ideology/religion doesn’t even exist is predicated on elevating those who possess that excess piece of crotch flesh (or fervently pretend that they belong to the same sex class) over us yucky, gross “cis AFABs” who do ALL of the reproductive labour and unglamorous & unpaid grunt work which keeps society ticking over.
I have come to the same conclusion as Diana with regard to this entire penis worshipping cult we have just “politely” allowed to hijack our society at virtually every level. What do I mean by this? I mean that here in the West, we still have the right to participate in the male-run political systems which at least claim to be the lynch pin of modern “democracy”. I suggest that we all vote against this while the men who run our society still so graciously allow us to.
Beyond that, most households in our society are run by women. Men have always rewarded “obedient” women (aka wives/girlfriends/partners) by appointing us to be the quartermaster of their private household. That means that even if our human right to vote in the “AMAB” run political system should be revoked, most of us still have the power to potentially bankrupt the more blatantly phallocentric corporations. The chief obstacle here seems to me to be the fact that most women have been successfully socialised to fail to notice just how precarious the legal status we once had really was, and further, that in many countries it is either hanging by a thread or has already been rescinded via the removal of the terms “women” and “girls” in legislation.
Oh, the mother erasure! I have a wish that any potential surrogate mother for this next “desired” son (and can you imagine being HIM, finding out about it later?) know about the couple’s past, and no one will do this for them, not for 10x what they paid before. It staggers my mind, to think of this female infant in that male household. O vey! Are they doing a crowd funder for the next boy? Will other gay male couples stand up and speak against this? As an NYC public Kindergarten teacher, I felt a pang when I taught a boy and girl, full siblings, adopted out of Guatemala by their NYU professor and accountant fathers. But then, the daughter, when asked what she’ll do when she grows up, said, “I will run the world.” When we pointed out this job doesn’t exist, she said, “It will when I grow up!” I hope for this girl that she feels the same. And so like many baby girls around the world, this one, too, is rejected on the altar of Male Pride. Is there anything different about the way these two BIGOTS treat this baby and the way women are treated in places like India?
I hope they put her up for adoption and that she goes to a LOVING home which will CHERISH her for the female she is.

If only! I am appalled by these men thinking that they are justified to spend gross amounts of money to bring more children into an environment that has limited resources for humans. If they really wanted a male baby why didn’t they go to the orphanages and help out an already living AMAB baby in need of parenting? I also went on to research how often such events happen and fertility clinics claim to specialize in offering this selective service yet state that nothing is 100 percent accurate. In the process of IVF potential embryos are disposed of to find the “desirable” ones. This playing of mad scientist / God really disturbs me. Instead of helping humans already in need we feel this absurd sense that if we can “buy an IVF baby” that somehow makes it “humane.” In a world with limited resources everything about these procedures is inhumane and ignores the truth of the matter that existing humans have value. The couple further ignore this truth by suing the IVF clinic claiming that their designer baby is not the right gender and therefore again, undesirable and without value. What does it take for a living human to have value? Only some of us are given this at birth.

Sexual discrimination is illegal but is allowed if relates to females!

Im so insulted all i can say is i hope all 3 children are female and the authorities allow the mothers to raise their daughters. Many surrogates regret it. Selling babies is surely cruel unnatural and unethical.
