CA – Edmonton, Alberta. Edmonton Police have issued a warning that Laverne Waskahat, a high-risk sex offender who preys on infants and toddlers, has been released from prison into the local community.
The 42-year-old, who is male and identifies as a woman, has been known to become acquainted with parents in order to groom and victimize their young children when entrusted in his care, and to take voyeuristic photographs of strangers’ small children in public female restrooms.
Mr Waskahat’s criminal history consists of possessing, making and publishing indecent material involving male and female infants and children under three-years-old.
A spokesperson for the department stated in a news release on Tuesday: “Edmonton Police Service has reasonable grounds to believe she is of significant harm to the community and will commit another sexual offence against a child under the age of 16.”
Mr Waskahat’s release is contingent on him abiding by such conditions as a 10 PM to 6 AM curfew; remaining at least 100 meters from places that children under 16 are known to congregate; notifying any person he gets into a relationship with of his criminal history; remaining out of the presence of any child under 16 unless supervised by an adult aware of his criminal history; prohibition on alcoholic beverages and drug paraphernalia; ban on pornography, images of children, and electronic storage and technological devices; refraining from purchase of children’s and women’s diapers; and remaining within the limits of the City of Edmonton unless written approval is given.
The Edmonton Police Service will monitor Mr Waskahat, and are seeking the public’s help in ensuring that the sex offender does not breach the above conditions. Observed breaches should be reported to EPS at 780-423-4567, or to Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250.
